Consumer vs Commercial

Consumer vs commercial.jpg

Purchasing displays for your business is really not that simple.  There are many factors that must be considered before shelling out your hard earned money.  Since displays have come down in price, it is very tempting to just purchase the cheapest displays and move on.  Of course, the inexpensive displays will work but here are some things you might want to consider:

Brightness

Commercial televisions are designed for bright ambient environments

Consumer televisions have a typical brightness of approximately 250-300 nits.  Commercial displays usually start around 300 but go all the way past 3000 nits.  Choose the right amount of brightness for your environment and your customers will clearly see your content.

Screen Orientation

Commercial displays can be mounted portrait or landscape

Consumer televisions are designed to be mounted landscape only.  You will immediately void your warranty and reduce the life of your television significantly.  Commercial displays are designed with components and cooling which enables portrait or landscape mounting and won't void your warranty.

Features

Consumer televisions and Commercial displays both come with remotes but offer different features

Commercial displays typically provide features such as scheduled display times, RS232 control, panel lockout, protection against image retention, better connectivity options, continuous usb playback, and many others.

Warranty

Most all Commercial televisions come with a minimum warranty period of 3 years

Not only are the warranty periods longer for Commercial displays but, they can cover such things as onsite service and advance replacement.  Consumer televisions have a year warranty at best.

Reliability

How many hours per day will your display be on?

Commercial displays are designed to be on 24/7 without a problem.  In contrast, Consumer televisions are designed to be on 6-8 hours per day.
